The scorpion kick is supposed to be a 'once-in-a-blue-moon' type of goal.

There was a period over the New Year when it seemed Premier League fans got to watch one almost every week, sparking endless debate over which was better.

First came Henrikh Mkhitaryan's effort against Sunderland. The Armenian won Goal of the Month for December thanks to his instinctive overhead flick, and it almost felt like we wouldn't see a better strike for years.

Then, Arsenal faced Crystal Palace, and it was Olivier Giroud's turn.

What the Gunners striker did was all the more impressive for the fact that he was actually onside. No matter how many times you watch it, though, it's hard to tell if it was actually deliberate.

Incredibly, the Frenchman didn't even pick up the monthly accolade, as he was beaten to the award by Andy Carroll's acrobatic goal for West Ham.

However, if you're looking for the best scorpion kick you'll see in a long time, look no further than the Spanish third division.

What a beauty

A fixture between Racing Ferrol and Palencia might not be the first game you'd expect to go viral, but that's exactly what has been happening thanks to this extraordinary moment from Bicho.

The assist from the guy on the ground is pretty special too.

Racing were already 2-0 up, hence why Bicho felt comfortable enough to try such an audacious effort. They went on to win 4-1, thanks in no small part to his cheeky scorpion.

All the scorpions

Rene Higuita made it famous at the other end while playing for Colombia, so this seems like an opportune time to watch that clip from El Loco again, as well as Giroud and Mkhitaryan's brilliant strikes.

Higuita is definitely the biggest risk-taker of all.

All very special goals in their own right. Argue among yourselves as to who did it better.

Who has the best technique? Have your say in the comments.
