Zlatan Ibrahimovic was always going to be a tough act to follow, but Edinson Cavani is loving life at Paris Saint-Germain’s go-to goal scorer.

After three years of ticking over in the Swede’s shadow, many wondered whether the 30-year-old could handle being the main man. Wielding 38 goals in just 37 appearances this season suggests the answer is a yes and an emphatic one at that.

In fact, since joining the Parisian side in 2013, the Uruguayan has garnered no less than 120 strikes in all competitions. As for the Ligue 1 goal scoring charts this season, Radamel Falcao proves a distant 11 goals off the pace.

So, of course, the general theme here is goals. Cavani has prided himself in being one of Europe’s most prolific strikers and it was a title to which he could claim during his Palermo and Napoli spells too.

Furthermore, the 30-year-old’s blinding performances in 2016-17 have given him the perfect opportunity to look back on a goal-rich career.

Speaking to Goal.com, Cavani has named his picks for the most important goal of his career and the very best.

He drew from his PSG career concerning the former and the 2015 Coupe de France final to be precise. After all, it was his bullet header that proved the difference between Laurent Blanc’s men and Auxerre.

The Uruguayan explained: "It was a special goal because I scored in a tough moment of the game, a very complicated moment. It was almost the end of the game, with five or six minutes left, and it was special because that goal gave us the chance to lift the cup."

More importantly though, what’s Cavani’s nomination for his finest ever strike? Well, a thorough sift through the archives is required.

The 30-year-old drew back on a 1-1 draw with Fiorentina during his Palermo days back in 2007. When you look back at the obscure pick, it’s not difficult to see why it got the nod.

The golden oldie can be seen below:

With Fiorentina failing to clear a lofted ball into the area, Cavani struck the ball first time from the very corner of the penalty box. Making a venomous connection, the ball looped violently over the ‘keeper and into the net.

It shows that, even at age 20, the forward was capable of finishing from pretty much anywhere. In addition, it was strikes like that that saw him make his Uruguay debut the following year and receive a bid from Napoli in 2010.

While, in his own opinion, he hasn’t scored a better one since, his general finishing certainly hasn’t diminished.

If he continues his electrifying form this season, then great plaudits and maybe even big money bids could be in order. Brilliant strikes like that would go down a treat in the Premier League, Edinson.
