Danny Jacobs is known as ‘The Miracle Man’ after coming back from bone cancer five years ago and the American almost pulled off a minor miracle against Gennady Golovkin at the weekend.

Golovkin, famous for his devastating punch power, was taken the distance by his American opponent but won the fight on points - to the surprise of more than a few boxing fans.

Some felt that Jacobs was unlucky to lose the fight - which judges scored 115-112, 115-112, 114-113 - after giving GGG the toughest test of his career.

“He did a very good job. Daniel, I respect," Golovkin said after ending Jacobs' 23-fight knockout streak. "Daniel is my favourite fighter. I can’t destroy him. He is very clean, a very good fighter."

While Golovkin is now targeting a showpiece fight against Canelo Alvarez, Jacobs admits he hopes for a rematch against the 34-year-old Kazakh in the future.

“I’m not sure which one it was the most, the power or the hand speed,” Jacobs was quoted as saying by Boxing Scene. “But I did land sometimes at will with my jab, especially when I was southpaw. At times he really couldn’t touch me But I’m not sure if the judges seen him throwing harder shots, or how they were judging it.

“But at the end of the day, I’m happy with my performance. If we can do it again, I would love to.”

Jacobs' strong finish to the 11th round

Jacobs clearly believes he has what it takes to beat Golovkin - and he presumably felt the same after the 11th round on Saturday night.

The 30-year-old responded to one of Golovkin’s left hooks with two solid punches that both shook his opponent.

Jacobs was then seen roaring at Golovkin as the bell rang for the end of the 11th.

But why did Jacobs react like this?

After being asked about the incident after the fight, Jacobs said: “When I was pumping my chest, showing that bravado, I was in the zone - and once you’re in the zone, it’s kinda hard to get out of it.

“That was just me showing what I had and letting *him* know that this ain’t going to be one of those easy rounds that you’ve had in the past.
