The announcement that fans have been waiting weeks for was finally made Monday Night on RAW.

The tension between RAW Commissioner Stephanie McMahon and General Manager Mick Foley came to a head last week and that led to a very intense scene at the start of Monday's episode.

A new era on RAW

For the last nine months, Foley has been in charge of RAW and he has made his fair share of calamities in that time.

The moment that has been tipped for weeks finally arrived on Monday Night as Foley's tenure as RAW General Manager came to an end.

Following his attack on Triple H last week, Foley began the show by coming to the ring and reading off of a set of cue cards in which he would claim that he will be taking a leave of absence.

When the General Manager became angered by the audacity of Triple H and Stephanie in giving him cue cards, things got a lot more intense.

The segment which saw Foley fired and Sami Zayn placed in a match with Samoa Joe served as a great way to begin RAW.

WrestleMania is just two weeks away and RAW being without a General Manager, it now looks unlikely that a new one will be named ahead of the big event in Orlando.

Foley was given several heartfelt tributes and messages of gratitude as he left the building - despite the people involved going on to suffer the consequences.

Each of the superstars who took time to speak with the former GM would be punished in different way on RAW.

RAW Women's Champion Bayley was forced to face Nia Jax in a no disqualification match with a win for Jax adding her to WrestleMania title match.

Cesaro and Sheamus had to face all four of their WrestleMania opponents with a loss for them leaving them out of the show of shows.

With Foley now out of the picture on RAW, the door is wide open for a new General Manager to be announced following WrestleMania.

While any name could easily be announced to be taking over the flagship show, there is one that has been mentioned more than others.

Set to be inducted into the WWE Hall of Fame two nights before WrestleMania, Kurt Angle is the favourite to take on the role next.

The former Olympic gold medallist is rumoured to be returning to the company on a weekly basis following WrestleMania, but whether or not he will be joining as the new RAW GM will remain to be seen.
