When Bastian Schweinsteiger signed for Manchester United in the summer of 2015, the German was hailed as a world class recruit who could help United back to glory after David Moyes' unsuccessful reign as manager. He played 31 games in all competitions in his first season at Old Trafford, but once Jose Mourinho took the reigns, the World Cup winner was frozen out.He was excluded from the first-team photo and was told to train with the under 23s, but amidst all of that, Schweinsteiger was the consummate professional and eventually got himself in and around Mourinho's squad. It was announced on Tuesday that the former Bayern Munich man would be leaving the club to sign with Chicago Fire in the MLS, subject to his visa clearing.Basti managed to win the FA Cup with the Red Devils, but, otherwise, it must be regarded as an uninspiring spell in England. Now 32, Schweinsteiger has battled fitness problems over the course of the last two years and it could be said his best days on the pitch are behind him.If you watch United's tribute video to him on Twitter, you wouldn't even be able to dispute that point - there is not one highlight of him kicking a football!

Even though he wasn't able to show what he could do towards the end of his time at the club, in an interview with manutd.com, he expressed his pleasure in helping the club's youngsters flourish.

"If I talk to young players, even here when I speak to youngsters like Jesse, Marcus, [Dutchman] Tim [Fosu-Mensah] and Axel with the first team, I just try to talk to them and help them so they improve as quickly as possible but without losing their own character.

"That's important. I think that everyone has to keep their own individuality and mentality. You should keep it and shouldn’t change, just think about some things. If some players take that on, it’s good. It’s fine if not, though, as it’s their own position."
