West Brom boss Tony Mowbray has revealed he will be given no fresh money to strengthen his squad in the summer and will have to sell current players to bring in new blood.

Seven points adrift of safety, Albion look doomed to be relegated from the Barclays Premier League after just one season back in the top flight. But Mowbray knows that he may have to offload several players to bring in the quality he needs to try and make an immediate return.

The former Hibs boss told PA Sport: "If we're going down, we need to revamp. We need to make money to bring players in and the only way we're going to do that is by selling players."

He added: "I won't have any money to spend. That's the way the club is run. They have a three-year plan and know if we never win another game or never have another cup run, then we will never be in financial trouble or be in debt."

Skipper Jonathan Greening has pledged his future to the Baggies if they are relegated.

And Mowbray is adamant only players he does not want to keep will be allowed to leave in the summer.

He said: "Yes, we need to generate money and I know we've got saleable assets, but the ones we sell will be the ones we want to sell.

"I would suggest that anybody who leaves our club will do so because we want him to leave and I will tell people if that's not the case.

"I may need to sell four, five, six, seven to generate money to bring one better player or a few other players."

On-loan Arsenal striker Jay Simpson has already indicated he wants to return to the Emirates Stadium in the summer rather than extend his period at the Hawthorns into next season.
