Steven Gerrard scores brilliant goal for Liverpool legends against Real Madrid legends

Every Liverpool fan that attended the match against Real Madrid legends this afternoon wanted one thing: a Steven Gerrard goal.

The recently retired midfielder was cheered every time he touched it and, as the match progressed, cries of ‘SHOOT’ rang around Anfield every time he touched it.

And the former skipper was by far the best player on the pitch.

He set up Michael Owen’s opener with a brilliant run and cross before doing likewise for John Aldridge shortly after half-time.

He then won a penalty when former Liverpool and Madrid goalkeeper Jerzy Dudek brought him down. Despite every person in the crowd wanting him to take it, captain Robbie Fowler stepped up and put Liverpool 3-0 up.

But then, it was Gerrard’s moment.

The cross came in from came from the right and Gerrard took one touch, before smashing a volley past Dudek to make it 4-0.

Gerrard’s goal

It was simply brilliant from Gerrard and the crowd absolutely loved it. Check it out:

While that goal put Liverpool 4-0 up, Madrid soon made it 4-3 – with one of the goals being scored by former Liverpool striker Fernando Morientes.

But it was very much Gerrard’s and Liverpool’s day with the midfielder also picking up the Man of the Match award.

Liverpool fans will probably be calling for Jurgen Klopp to sign up the former captain ahead of the Merseyside Derby a week today.

The legend is currently working as a coach at the academy at Melwood in what is expected to be the first step towards managing his beloved club.

But one thing is for sure, he certainly hasn’t lost his footballing ability.
