The Premier League season is closing in on the point when only the most worthy of candidates are discussed as potential winners of the PFA Players’ Player of the Year award.

With only ten matches or so left to play for most teams in the division, the past seven months have given a telling indication of which individuals deserve to be considered for the prestigious accolade.

Chelsea midfielder N’Golo Kante is enjoying one of the finest seasons an individual player has produced in recent history, albeit not in the most glamorous of fashions.

The France international has given his side the metaphoric advantage of having an extra man on the pitch, covering ground and breaking up opposition moves at double the rate of most players.

Kante is clearly an outstanding Premier League talent, but the nature of his playing style is likely to see him overlooked in favour of fellow contenders Eden Hazard, Alexis Sanchez, Romelu Lukaku or Diego Costa.

Arguably in equal measure to his physical and defensive prowess, Kante has earned a reputation for being an incredibly humble individual.

Considering the man has chosen to drive himself to training in a Mini since joining Leicester in August 2015, perhaps his views on who should win the PFA Players’ Player of the Year award won’t be all too surprising.

"There are quite a few players in the Premier League who deserve this award," Kante told Canal +, as per Goal.

"There is [Eden] Hazard, Diego Costa and David Luiz in my team.”

DOES KANTE DESERVE IT?

Despite recipients of the PFA Player’s Player of the Year award typically being attacking players, few would bat an eyelid if Kante were to scoop the honour this time around.

His presence in the Chelsea midfield has almost single-handedly enabled Antonio Conte to deploy his favoured 3-4-3 formation to best effect.

The sheer brilliance of his performances is the only reason Kante has received so much attention while operating in what is a rather unremarkable role on paper.

However, if the 25-year-old was forcibly sidelined through injury or suspension, his absence would arguably be felt to a greater extent than few other players around Europe.
