West Brom manager Tony Mowbray is weighing up whether to pursue his initial interest in Livingston's teenage striker Leigh Griffiths.
The 18-year-old has just returned to his club after completing a trial period with the Baggies. Former Hibernian boss Mowbray last summer signed midfielder Graham Dorrans from Livingston and he has created a favourable impression in his first season at Albion.
Mowbray confirmed: "The relationship between the two clubs has allowed Leigh to come down here to West Brom for a few days."
He added: "We got in Graham Dorrans from Livingston last summer and he has been showing that he has the potential to be a decent footballer. Leigh is a young boy with potential. He has got something like 17 or 18 goals in 23 games and he has come down and trained with us.
"After discussions, we will see if we take it any further but basically he is a boy, 18, who wouldn't be coming to go straight into our first team squad.
"If we did decide to do anything, he would be a young player to compete with other young players at our club. We will wait and see if we pursue it."
Mowbray clearly has his eye on young striking talent and watched Swindon's Simon Cox in action against Leyton Orient while his backroom staff have kept tabs on him on several occasions.
He is also keen to retain the services of on-loan Nancy front man Marc Antoine-Fortune after this season. The clubs agreed a fee should any deal become permanent when Fortune joined on loan during the January transfer window.
Mowbray said: "Marc is well within his rights to keep his own counsel because I can't question anything he is doing on the field. If I saw any signs of him stepping off the gas, he wouldn't be playing.
"But I see a very committed and very whole-hearted player giving everything for this club. Yes, he is a player we would like to keep if there could be a deal that could be done because his quality is very evident. We will wait and see. There is an agreed fee but it is not locked in."
