Manny Pacquiao is arguably one of the greatest fighters to have stepped inside of a boxing ring, and it’s clear just how much passion he has for the sport too.

After all, he came out of retirement to lace up the gloves once again.

LEGENDARY CAREER

His skills have allowed him to become the first – and to this day the only – boxer to become a world champion in eight divisions, showcasing his dominance in the welterweight, featherweight and bantamweight divisions.

Footage has emerged of a fresh-faced Pac Man earlier in his career, where it’s visible that he had power in his infamous left hand before he was even recognisable, and he put it on full display.

Pacquiao made a name for himself in his native Philippines by knocking out opponents older than him, and one that sticks out the most took place over 20 years ago in Puerto Princesa.

The 16-year-old Pacquiao was up against Renato Mendones in an eight-round contest, but he only needed two to show off his dominance and how tough he really was and remained throughout his career.

BRUTAL KO

As you’ll be able to see in the video below, Pacquiao dominated the entire fight by landing numerous heavy shots before hitting the dazed Mendones with a devastating left hook to send him crashing to the canvas – a punch that would go on to become a signature weapon of his.

Viewers that have tuned into the unearthed footage have been extremely impressed with Pacquiao, but weren’t too happy with the referee.

Pac Man was throwing and landing plenty of big shots, and he should have stopped the fight much earlier. Instead, he allowed Mendones to take unnecessary damage before his fate was sealed.

Fast forward 20-something years and the current Senator of the Philippines is on the lookout for his 68th career fight after picking up a unanimous decision victory over Jesse Vargas in November 2016.

There was a lot of disappointment recently, as his proposed bout in the middle east with Amir Khan was scrapped, and now his promoter, Bob Arum is scrambling to find an opponent for July, or keep his prized asset on the shelf until November.

At the moment, though, it looks as if Pacquiao is going to have to settle with Australia’s Jeff Horn.
