Brazilian UFC star Glover Teixeira has become the latest fighter from the world of MMA to declare a willingness to switch disciplines for a high profile boxing match.

As the long-running ‘will they, won’t they’ Floyd Mayweather vs Conor McGregor saga rumbles on with no official announcement, other UFC fighters have spoken of their willingness to take on a boxer.

At the beginning of March, after triumphing at a pulsating UFC Fight Night in London, Jimmy Manuwa opted to call out fellow Londoner David Haye, rather than an opponent from his own sport.

Haye is currently recovering from a torn Achilles tendon, sustained during his shock defeat to Tony Bellew, and it remains to be seen whether he would be open to such an arrangement.

Now, Glover Teixeira, veteran of the UFC light heavyweight division, has spoken firstly of his admiration for current IBF heavyweight champion Anthony Joshua, and then of his desire to face off against him.

“I think right now Joshua is the No.1 heavyweight in the world,” said the Brazilian.

“I have watched Joshua, he is incredible. But In boxing there is always a chance, I will never say there is no chance.

“If I take the fight I am going to take that chance. If I hit him in the right spot then I know he is going to go down.

“I know I have the power to knock out anyone.”

However, it appears that Teixeira would not be targeting a long-term switch in fighting disciplines, as he clearly identifies money as his sole motivation for such a potential bout.

“It’s about business. We have to take care of our families and futures and money helps,” admitted the 37 year-old.

“Why not get this fight and make a few million. I think it’s all about money, those guys don’t really care about the sport of boxing.

“Boxing is a different sport but those guys are asking because there could be a lot of money in it, that’s all.

“I’d fight in boxing for a lot of money but my sport is MMA and I love it and I think it’s the ultimate sport.”

However, for now, the attentions of both athlete’s will be on the immediate future.

Teixeira takes on local boy Alex Gustafsson in a UFC bout in Stockholm on 28 May, while Joshua is planning to capture the WBA and IBO heavyweight belts with a victory over Ukrainian legend Wladimir Klitschko at Wembley on 29 April.
