It's not unusual for fans to never forgive a player for leaving their club. Frequently when the player returns to their former side they are subjected to a chorus of boos and unsavoury chants.

But some fans are taking their hate to the next level, and in anticipation of his return this weekend they've promised him a welcome to hell he'll never forget.

Italian football fans are some of the most passionate in the world, and you really don't want them on your back, but unluckily for Juventus striker Gonzalo Higuain he's going to be in for an uncomfortable trip to his old stomping ground on Sunday.

This weekend sees the Argentine international return to the San Paolo for the first time since his £75million move to rivals Juventus over the summer, and the fans are ramping up the ante already.

Higuain hit an impressive 36 goals in 35 Serie A last term, a feat that saw him equal the league's scoring record for the most goals in a single season.

But his records won't matter anymore, as the fans have still not forgiven him for defecting to the hated Juve in search of more titles both at home and in Europe.

And ahead of his comeback, they've taken to the streets to sell all manner of insulting imagery of his, including toilet paper with his face on it!

There are also images of him being flushed down the toilet, giving a clear indication into just how they regard the 29-year-old now he's no longer with them.

"I wouldn't want to be in his shoes,” former Italian international striker Paolo Rossi told Gazzetta dello Sport (via the Mirror).

"His situation is certainly more difficult than mine was because he played for Napoli, but certainly for me it was hell.

"I managed to score a penalty, but each time I touched the ball there were crazy, deafening whistles. All I can tell him is that whistles make champions stronger.

"Unlike me, Higuain gave Napoli a lot and warrants recognition," he said. "His choice should be respected, not forgetting that before him, [Edinson] Cavani and [Ezequiel] Lavezzi also both moved on.”

Higuain said that he left the club because he couldn't stand working with owner Aurelio De Laurentiis,  who then branded the striker as “a disgrace” and “ungrateful”.

Diego Maradona has also joined in, calling Higuain a traitor, and the only people he'll be able to trust on Sunday are those in black and white jerseys.
