Liverpool were back to their devastating best during Saturday's early kick-off against Everton.

Sadio Mane broke the deadlock inside the opening 10 minutes after playing a neat one-two with Roberto Firmino and finding the bottom-right corner from a tough angle.

A goal from Everton centre-back Matthew Pennington then made it 1-1 but, moments later, Philippe Coutinho produced a moment of magic to restore Liverpool's lead.

The Brazilian collected the ball in Everton's half, cruised past Idrissa Gueye and found the top-right corner with a delightful curling effort.

And Coutinho turned provider for Liverpool's third by playing through Divock Origi on the hour mark to fire past the woeful Joel Robles, who probably should have done better.

Liverpool's win moved them up to third in the Premier League, six points clear of Manchester United in fifth and a further three ahead of sixth-placed Arsenal.

More importantly, the Reds' win tightened their grip on a top four place, but based on Saturday's performance, they'll need Coutinho to keep firing to secure Champions League football.

Coutinho was the focal point of every Liverpool attack against Everton using his pace, skill and creativity. He really was impressive.

A montage of the Brazil international's display has now emerged on Twitter and it shows exactly how Coutinho bossed the Merseyside derby.

Everton's defence couldn't handle him, both on and off the ball. For Mane's goal, for example, Coutinho made an intelligent dummy run to create space for his Senegalese teammate.

COUTINHO'S MASTERCLASS VS EVERTON

What a performance - it's no wonder Barcelona are so keen to sign him.

It turns out Klopp has been right all along about Coutinho, who he recently insisted would eventually return to form following his ankle injury at Christmas.

"That's the life of an outstandingly good football player like Phil," Klopp said earlier this month. "The influence of him on the game is really big.

"If he is not at 100 per cent you miss something, that's how it is."

On the whole, Coutinho's goals and assists record this season isn't that bad: in 23 Premier League games, the 27-year-old has scored seven goals and provided a further six.

And you suspect those statistics will only improve next season - and the season after that - given how much he has improved in recent years.
