After winning the Miami Open, Britain's Johanna Konta now has her eyes firmly fixed on becoming world number one.

Konta, 25, secured the Miami Open crown against Caroline Wozniacki with a 6-4 6-3 victory, which took Britain's number one to seventh in the world rankings.

It was only in 2015, that Konta was ranked 146th in the world, now she has a major title under her belt and is targeting more silverware in the coming months.

The victorious Konta was quoted by BBC Sport as saying: "The belief has been there since I was a little girl. I'd like to be the best player in the world but there's a lot of work to be done between now and then.

"Everybody's journey is different. I needed a little more time and a little more experience to accumulate the knowledge that I have and re-use it in my matches."

Konta continued: "I play smart tennis and calmer tennis I think. It just took time. On paper it looks like a quick turnaround but it's been a long time coming."

Konte hails Juan Coto

One of the biggest turning points in Konta's career was the death of her coach Juan Coto, who passed away back in December.

When speaking to BBC Radio Five Live following Coto's death, Konta claimed: "Everything I do, he will be a part of. He left me with some incredible tools to deal with my profession and also life. He is still very much a part of my journey."

Wim Fissette amazed by Konta's progress

Konta is now under the reigns of new coach, Wim Fissette, who has been amazed by her progress in the past few months.

Fissette told BBC Sport when Konta made the quarter-finals of the Australian Open: "She has big ground strokes, not many weaknesses, and I also saw her as somebody who is very hard-working and very disciplined.

"I started working with her because I really believe she can win a Grand Slam if she keeps getting better like this."

It's evident that Konta has blossomed under the guidance of Fissette, with the British number one praising the people around her:

"I was very fortunate that throughout the years I've managed to have some very, very good people around me," she added.

The next aim for Konta will most definitely be a Grand Slam as that world number one ranking is very much in her sight.
