Shinsuke Nakamura’s attempt to dethrone Bobby Roode for the newly designed NXT Championship ended in defeat, after the champion hit an impressive rotating Glorious DDT to retain his gold. The result didn’t come as much of a surprise in Orlando on Saturday night, as all of the speculation hinted towards all three titles not changing hands, with Asuka defeating Ember Moon and the Authors of Pain overcoming both The Revival and DIY.

NXT CHAMPIONSHIP

Nakamura and Roode put on an impressive showing, though, and there was a lot more emotion heading into this match as rumours suggested this was going to be the final NXT match for the King of Strong Style.

This week, it was reported that WWE had decided that following Nakamura’s loss to Roode, their plan was to have him debut on the roster on SmackDown LIVE, rather than Monday Night RAW.

As expected, when news likes that breaks out the fans in attendance are bound to be emotional as this was – potentially – going to be the final time Nakamura competed on NXT, or a TakeOver special at least, while it’s also a proud moment to see the veteran move up to the blue brand after one year on NXT.

They made sure to leave a lasting impression, and something he’ll probably never forget.

We’re used to them singing along to his incredible theme music as he makes his way to the ring, but the send-off he received was just as incredible than the first time he ever stepped foot between the yellow ropes.

INCREDIBLE SEND-OFF

Fan footage first showed him inside of the ring with thunderous ‘Nakamura’ chants echoing throughout the arena, and that was quickly followed up with chants of ‘Thank You Shinsuke’, and ‘See You Tuesday.’

For a while, though, WWE didn’t even need to play his entrance music on his way out again as the fans ensured they did a fantastic job of their own, just like they always do as he stood in the middle of the ring.

WWE also uploaded the footage, showing a visibly emotional Nakamura make his exit in what could have been his final match in NXT.

He walked around the ring with his damaged knee before starting the NXT chants, pointing towards the logo of the brand on the ramp as he stood tall on the stage and slowly made his way through the curtains.

Emotions were clearly running high throughout the match, especially after the result, but that reaction alone shows how much Nakamura means to the fans, and how lucky we have all been to see him compete on NXT.
