Nicola Adams already has two Olympic Gold medals under her belt, following up her success at London 2012 with victory at the Rio Olympics last year.

Following the Games in Brazil, boxing’s first female Gold medallist announced she was to turn pro, and her adventure begins this Saturday in Manchester, against Argentinian Virginia Noemi Carcamo.

It is from the American Ronda Rousey that Adams draws her inspiration. The 30-year-old American won Bronze in Beijing, becoming America’s first medallist in the field of Judo.

It was not her exploits at the Olympic Games that caught the eye of the world, however, rather how she went on to compete in UFC and Mixed Martial Arts – enjoying a highly successful career in those two sports.

The fun didn’t stop there for the enigmatic Rousey, she proceeded to try her hand in Hollywood, utilising her background as a means to break into the world of film.

Rousey did succeed in securing several roles, including prolonged cameos in Entourage, Furious 7 and TV series Blindspot.

Adams want to follow Rousey

British star Adams is looking to emulate the path Rousey took, and she had warm words for her American counterpart.

“Ronda Rousey has done an amazing job for the UFC and taken it to a whole new level in the women’s game," he said.

“In the UFC they have women headlining and they get paid just as much as the men do. I can definitely see myself in the next Hollywood blockbuster.

“After achieving my goals in amateur boxing, I want to become world champion as a professional.”

Las Vegas dreams

Adams reiterated her desire to send shockwaves throughout the professional field of Boxing, whilst stressing her will to highlight how far women’s boxing has progressed.

“I would love to change some people’s perspective of women’s boxing, and headline my own shows and have big fights in Las Vegas," she added.

There’s no time to waste for the Brit, who has been preparing for this weekend’s fight with Virgil Hunter, who is infamously Amir Khan’s former trainer. Plans are already in place for her second fight in Leeds on May 13, and she is relishing the occasions.

Adams said: “I’m buzzing. I can’t wait to get going in a big arena with a big crowd. I’m coming for every title.”

It will no doubt be fascinating tracking her progress in the coming weeks and months, yet one thing is for sure; Nicola Adams is determined to get to the top.
