England youngsters Marcus Rashford and Jesse Lingard had the opportunity to prove themselves to Jose Mourinho for Manchester United against West Bromwich Albion at Old Trafford on Saturday but failed to make the most of their opportunity.
Neither of the Red Devils' young hopefuls could inspire the team to gain anything more than a point at home to a side that many would have expected to them to defeat prior to the match.
Indeed, West Brom had beaten Arsenal 3-1 in their last outing but, with Mourinho's men attempting to claw their way back into the Champions League places, it was a result that did not sit well with the Portuguese.

And it was not only the result that left a sour taste with Mourinho in the aftermath of a game that allowed Liverpool to increase their gap over their rivals but disappointment with his frontmen's inability to capitalise on their dominance against a defensive West Brom side.
The United boss had confessed that his friend in the opposing dugout, Tony Pulis, had set his side up to defend and earn a point at Old Trafford, but the 54-year-old is rather more disappointed that his frontmen couldn't find the end product.
United boasted 75% possession and 18 shots, but could only register three on target during a relatively comfortable afternoon for the Baggies' Ben Foster.
But Mourinho will be able to welcome back star frontman Zlatan Ibrahimovic from suspension for their game at home to Everton, which will all but certainly see Rashford revert to the bench.
Mourinho's frustrations mounting
And according to The Sun, Mourinho has grown frustrated with his youngsters enjoying a luxury life off the pitch while they are failing to do what they are paid for on it.
It is understood the Portuguese is fed up with the distractions which are causing the club's younger players to be swayed from what they should be focused on as Mourinho remains hopeful of a return to Champions League football next season.
But with Lingard having netted just once in the Premier League all season and Rashford not having netted in the league since a 4-1 thrashing of Leicester way back in December, it's understandable why their boss is fed up.
Too much too soon
As last season's surprise sensation, since that fairytale campaign which saw his earnings rise to around £25,000-a-week last May, Rashford's form has dipped. But he will still soon be moving into a newly-built six-bedroom apartment in Cheshire soon.
Meanwhile, Lingard, who has recently been spotted driving a new £250,000 Bentley Continental GTS, is eyeing a new £120,000-a-week contract.
However, whether Mourinho will sanction such a deal on his current form remains to be seen.
Both Rashford and Lingard still have a lot to prove and a lot do for United before the end of the season. Paying young players in England extortionate sums is perhaps starting to tell.
