Hatem Ben Arfa is unquestionably one of the most skilful footballers on the planet.

Now, that doesn’t necessarily make him one of the best, but he’s undoubtedly among the most talented.

In order to be the best, you need to be focused, consistent and make the right decisions more often than not during matches.

Ben Arfa might be at Paris Saint-Germain right now but has he fulfilled his immense talent and potential? Many football fans would argue he hasn’t.

The 30-year-old has put in some unbelievable performances and scored some remarkable individual goals that very few players - if any, with the obvious exception of Lionel Messi - could pull off. However, these moments of brilliance have been too few and far between throughout his career.

The difference between Ben Arfa and Cristiano Ronaldo

We all know the France international is capable but he simply hasn’t produced the goods on a consistent enough basis to cement his status as a genuine world-class footballer.

Ben Arfa’s talent level could be compared with the very best, including Cristiano Ronaldo.

The big difference is how they’ve applied themselves to their profession.

Ronaldo is a shining example to aspiring footballers of how to act, both on and off the pitch, in order to fulfil your potential.

Ben Arfa: Why I don't enjoy watching Ronaldo

And perhaps there’s a hint of jealously in Ben Arfa’s latest comments, because the Frenchman has told reporters why he doesn’t enjoy watching Ronaldo play football.

"Cristiano Ronaldo, he does not give me any emotion," the winger told France Football, per Goal. "He is predictable."

Ben Arfa hits out at Mourinho and Simeone

Predictable, perhaps. But Ben Arfa’s talking about Real Madrid’s all-time leading goalscorer, a player with four Ballon d’Or awards to his name and unquestionably one of the greatest footballers of all time.

The PSG star also criticised Manchester United manager Jose Mourinho and Atletico Madrid head coach Diego Simeone for encouraging so-called ‘anti-football’ with defensive tactics.

"Many coaches are convinced to invent football on the pretext that they are looking for a system to block the opponent," Ben Arfa added. "But this is not in the essence of football, with Mourinho and Simeone.

"It is the antithesis of [former Ajax and Barcelona coach Johan] Cruyff and his freedom, and with them there is no longer room for pleasure.

"There is no more spectacle, to the point that football interests me much less. I do not find pleasure watching matches. Even in Ligue 1, we kill football."

Perhaps Ben Arfa can put the football world to rights by becoming a coach himself after he hangs up his boots…
