If you were to say a few months ago that former Minnesota Vikings star running back Adrian Peterson would still be sitting as a free agent at the beginning of April, it probably would have been hard to believe. But, here we are just a few days into April and Peterson is still sitting without a contract and hanging out on the free agent market.Recently, Peterson went to visit the New England Patriots, a match that would probably make a whole lot of sense and be seriously dangerous. Unfortunately, things just didn't work out it seems, as Peterson has now left New England without a contract. The news comes from ESPN's Field Yates, who explains that while the two sides couldn't come to terms on a new deal, the opportunity for one to come together down the line isn't out of the question. It seems as though both sides may be feeling out the market, and then opting to make a decision from there.

While Peterson has a big name and a ton of production throughout his career, this is only his second free agent visit of the offseason, as ESPN's Adam Schefter reported. This makes it hard to know exactly where Peterson will land, and how much he'll wind up signing for.

Obviously, with the Patriots likely losing LeGarrette Blount to free agency, they could certainly use a new addition to the mix, at least in the form of a player like Peterson. While Peterson only played in three games last season due to injuries, he led the league in rushing a year before that, tallying 1,485 yards and 11 touchdowns.

Throughout his career, Peterson has topped the 1,000-yard mark seven times, while topping 2,000 rushing yards in 2012. He also has hit double-digit touchdowns in every season where he's played more than three games, which is a pretty unreal stat to consider.

Time will tell us where Peterson winds up, but a potential pairing with the Patriots down the road, should he not find another home, would be entertaining to watch, to say the least.
