Sergey Kovalev finally has his wish – he’s officially getting his rematch against Andre Ward.
The American defeated his rival back in November where he stripped the light heavyweight championships from Krusher, with their promoters confirming the bout on Tuesday.
Their highly anticipated rematch will take place on June 17 at Mandalay Bay in Las Vegas, and it comes after many thought the judges scored the bout incorrectly, with the Russian doing enough to hand the Son of God his first professional loss.

That was because of a second-round knockdown he scored, and the judges controversially scored it 114-133 to the American and Kovalev made sure he used his rematch clause to full effect, and exercised that right shortly after their first clash.
It was Ward who first broke the silence after the outcome, telling Kovalev to leave the excuses at home.
He posted: “I’m going to keep it short and sweet. You got what you asked for – now you have to see me on June 17. This time, leave the excuses at home.”
TRILOGY ON THE CARDS?
As expected, Kovalev took to Twitter to issue a fiery response of his own, with a bold statement.
He posted: “Be ready m**********r! I’ll finish your boxing career.”
That quickly achieved over 2,000 likes, and fans are already at the prospect of seeing Kovalev being even more aggressive as he attempts to avenge his sole professional loss.
Before his expletive tweet, though, he was much calmer when he spoke out about the rematch with ‘Son of Judges’ finally being confirmed.
According to ESPN, he said: “I’m glad to know that rematch will happen.
“I really hope that Andre Ward will get into the ring for this rematch. Fans of boxing will see the real ‘Krusher’ — the one they have missed for a couple of my last fights. For me, this rematch is very important as no other bout in my entire boxing career. Thanks a lot to all of boxing fans.”
Ward’s trainer, Virgil Hunter, also spoke out about the fight and was quick to mention that if his fighter does somehow lose for the first time, they’d go right for the trilogy.
He said: “We’d just go to a trilogy.
“I think there’s a rematch clause in the contract, if I’m not mistaken. We’d go to a trilogy. We were made out to be the ones holding, but not one time did we get you in a head-lock. Not one time did we get you in a bear-hug.
“When we would attack you, you’d grab us. When you grab us, we’re not going to just let you grab us, and let you do what you want to do. I challenge anybody to get with me and watch the fight and let me count the initiated holds, and I guarantee you Andre is nowhere near Kovalev.”
Expect plenty more trash talk in the build-up to what could be the biggest fight of the year.
