No player has won more Premier League titles than Ryan Giggs, who lifted the trophy 13 times during his illustrious Manchester United career. The Welshman came through the Class of ’92 to become one of the greatest players in the club’s history. His legacy can be cemented by his six appearances in the PFA Premier League Team of the Year, his final appearance coming 16 years after his first.Giggs was a nightmare for full-backs during his pomp. Just ask Lee Dixon, who was turned inside out by the Welsh Wizard when he scored arguably his greatest ever goal for United. It came in 1999 in an FA Cup semi-final replay against Arsenal. With the tie locked at 1-1 in extra-time, Giggs latched onto Patrick Vieira’s loose pass and proceeded to weave through Arsenal’s defence before smashing the ball past David Seaman.Giggs’ celebration - he ripped his shirt off and flung it above his head - was just as memorable as the goal itself.“I can never forget the semi-final at Villa Park,” Dixon said in an interview with the Republik of Mancunia in 2015. “How could I? “I remember the team sheet came in and all the lads were calling me lucky as Giggs was on the bench.

"I said what was lucky about marking Blomqvist for 70 odd minutes then Giggs coming on to finish me off with fresh legs?

“Oh how true that was!”

Dixon wasn’t the only defender who was left red-faced by Giggs. He was simply unstoppable at times.

But, from that moment on, Giggs didn’t fear lining up against Dixon.

Giggs names his toughest opponent

In an interview with the Champions League, the 43-year-old was asked to name his toughest ever opponent. Giggs named a player he came up against just three times in his club career: Javier Zanetti.

“The toughest defender I came up against was Zanetti,” Giggs said, “the Argentinian full-back who played for Inter Milan.”

Giggs faced Zanetti twice in the Champions League quarter-finals in 1999 and again at the round-of-16 stage in 2009.

The two have great respect for each other, as evidenced by their Twitter conversation in 2014.
