Shrews to appeal against Leslie dismissal

Shrewsbury have revealed they are to launch an appeal against the red card which saw Steve Leslie sent off during the club's play-off semi-final second leg against Bury on Sunday.

The midfielder was shown a seemingly harsh straight red following an aerial challenge with the Shakers' Stephen Dawson at Gigg Lane.

The Shrews went on to see off Bury on penalties meaning, as it stands, Leslie is ruled out of the May 23 final against Gillingham at Wembley.

But the club are hoping the suspension will be overturned and manager Paul Simpson told Town's official website: "We've had a look at the incident and think that there is enough to ask for the decision to be reviewed.

"We will fill in the required paperwork and get it sent off in time to get it looked at.

"Steven isn't the type of player who would do something like that so hopefully we can get the right decision in time for Wembley."
