With Lionel Messi just two months away from the dreaded age of 30, talk has begun of who will eventually replace the Argentine as the world's best player.

A number of names crop up in this particular discussion, but one player appears to stand head and shoulders above the rest: Neymar.

His credentials as a future Ballon d'Or winner have been on show throughout this season, especially so during Barcelona's recent 6-1 victory over Paris Saint-Germain in the Champions League.

Neymar scored a stunning free-kick and penalty during the second leg and assisted the winner with a sumptuous cross for Sergi Roberto.

Speaking on BT Sport after the game, Manchester United legend Rio Ferdinand was in no doubt that, based on what he saw, the Brazilian is the heir to Messi's throne.

"His goal was ridiculous," Ferdinand said, referring to Neymar's free-kick. "You could've had two players in goal, they're not getting there.

"He was the best player on the pitch, he's the heir to the throne."

Ferdinand isn't alone in his opinion that Neymar will one day be the world's best, with a montage of the 24-year-old humiliating great players reinforcing that notion.

In the video below, Neymar can be seen destroying defences of Real Madrid, Atletico Madrid and Manchester City. Heck, at 1:02, he even shrugs off Messi.

Neymar is genuinely unstoppable once he's in top gear.

The Brazil international came in for criticism at the beginning of the 2016/17 season for a lack of goals and assists, but he's rediscovered his form of late.

In his last 10 games in all competitions, he's scored six goals and provided a further three.

Some believe that Neymar is already better than Messi and Cristiano Ronaldo, with Brazil legend Romario recently explaining how he's currently the world's best player.

"Nowadays, Neymar is our (Brazil's) biggest star," he said. "He's the best player in the world right now, with all due respect to Messi and Cristiano Ronaldo - which, particularly, I believe has been much inferior to the other two.

"For what he's been doing both for Barca and Selecao, it's about time Neymar is elected the number one in the planet.

"We (Brazilians) put all our trust in a player like Neymar, he's the one that can give us in [the] Russia [World Cup]."
