Crewe boss Gudjon Thordarson has reassured fans that he will not be duped by players` agents as he looks to strengthen his squad for next season.

The Icelander is tasked with leading Alexandra back to League One, but maintains he will not make needless signings to achieve that aim.

"It is the nature of the game but I have never been someone who has been dictated to by agents," Thodarson told the club`s official website. "They are trying to get the best possible deal for themselves and their clients and will use other clubs to do that."

He added: "It is all about getting players who want to come here to learn and improve and progress. The signings have to be right.

"If we cannot find them on a permanent deal then we could bring them in on long-term loans again. There is no point bringing in players for the sake of it."
