It's been a night to forget for Barcelona, as their failure to overcome a mediocre Malaga side may well have handed the Spanish league title to arch rivals Real Madrid.Los Blancos failed to win their own crunch game against Atletico in the Madrid derby with that game ending 1-1, so the chance to leapfrog Zinedine Zidane's men should have been one that they grabbed with both hands. However, even for a club like Barcelona things sometimes don't work out that way, as is the nature of football, and they have given themselves a veritable mountain to climb in order to keep hold of their title.Neymar, who has been in such good form for club and country recently, was given his marching orders thanks to two yellow cards. His first – a bizarre incident that saw him appear to obstruct a Malaga free kick with his backside set things off on the wrong foot, while his second was for a cynical barge through the back of an opposition player.Goals in both halves from Malaga were enough to give them all three points, but many feel as though it should have been different, and if it wasn't for the referee it very well could have been. Before the goals and the cards, Barcelona started the game brightly and should have been awarded a penalty after Sergi Roberto – the hero from the comeback against Paris Saint Germain recently – worked his way into the box.The referee did blow his whistle, but with one small snag – he felt that the foul occurred just outside the box and not inside, while replays of the incident suggest that he got that call wrong.

As you can see, the referee quite clearly got that one wrong, and cost Barca the opportunity of a good start to maintain their title push.

Sometimes incidents like these can be defining moments in a season for all the wrong reasons, but you can bet the Catalan press will be crying bloody murder about it in the coming days.

Though, to be fair, most of the focus will be on Neymar's yellow cards, and it will be no surprise to see if Barca try to overturn the decision.
