Earlier today, shocking CCTV footage emerged of Ross Barkley being punched in the face by a man in a nightclub on Monday morning. The 23-year-old, who was celebrating Everton's 4-2 win over Leicester City, fell to the floor from the sucker punch, while the unidentified man was dragged away by onlookers. It's also being reported that Barkley was knocked out.Videos of the altercation quickly went viral on social media, with local police issuing the following statement."Merseyside Police is aware of footage online reportedly showing an assault in a bar in Liverpool city centre," the statement read, per ESPN."No report of an assault has been received, but officers are making enquiries to establish the circumstances of the incident."Questions have been asked of what exactly Barkley did to deserve being punched, with the below video suggesting he did very little wrong. And while Everton are yet to comment on the incident, Barkley's lawyers have cleared up what happened in the bar, said to be Santa Chupitos in Liverpool. They told Press Association Sport: "We can confirm that Ross was the victim of an unprovoked attack by a stranger who approached him on Sunday evening."

As if being punched wasn't bad enough, the attack on Barkley was completely unprovoked. Disgusting behaviour.

The incident has gone some way to diverting attention from the England international's uncertain future at Everton, with Ronald Koeman saying on Sunday that he could be sold.

"We offer him a new contract, and then [there are] two possibilities," he said after the Leicester win.

"One, he signs that contract, if he doesn't sign that contract then we need to sell the player. It's simple, it's not so difficult in my opinion."
