Arsenal were simply not good enough against Crystal Palace as they fell to a 3-0 defeat at Selhurst Park. While the players went down without a fight, their travelling supporters refused to leave quietly.Towards the end of the match, they refused to return the match ball when it came their way before beginning chants of ‘You’re not fit to wear the shirt’ when Hector Bellerin came over to take a throw.Whether the chants were aimed at the Spaniard directly is unknown but it’s clear that the Gooners inside the stadium were fuming.Even when Bellerin and co. went over to the away end to applaud them for their support and to apologise for their display, they were roundly booed.

'You're not fit to wear the shirt' chant

Ouch.

Arsenal’s defeat leaves their entire season hanging in the balance.

It’s looking likely they will miss out of a top four spot for the first time under Arsene Wenger, while they trail north London rivals Tottenham by a massive 14 points.

Their campaign is now relying on the FA Cup, where they face Manchester City in the semi-final at the end of the month.

But how do the Arsenal players get over such a devastating night?

Well, it appears that Wenger gave them the day off - or at least he gave Bellerin the day off.

Bellerin's tweet

After the right-back was criticised by Arsenal fans, the defender tweeted: “Morning run to recover from a difficult night,” accompanied with a picture of him running alongside a beach.

In fairness, the majority of replies to Bellerin’s tweet show their support - condemning what some of the Arsenal fans were chanting during Monday night’s defeat.

Wenger on the defeat

After the game, Arsene Wenger refused to be drawn on the loud chants being heard by the away fans, instead revealing how hurt he was by his side’s performance.

“I'm not in the mood to speak about it,” said Wenger.

“At the moment I pay more respect to the fact we had a disappointing result. It would be inconvenient for me to speak about me.

"It was more painful for us to lose this game in the way we lost it. What counts is how we perform on the pitch. I feel everyone is focused in the club to do it. It's really strange. We were unbeaten for a long time away from home, and now we cannot win. It had an impact on us after the second goal."
