Dani Alves is set to face Barcelona for the first time since joining Juventus on a two-year deal last summer when they go head-to-head in the first leg of their Champions League quarter-final on Tuesday night.

The Brazilian enjoyed a trophy-laden eight years at the Camp Nou and was instrumental to the club's success, which saw him lift the Champions League on two occasions, while winning La Liga six times, also.

They were the best years of the right-back's career and his tireless energy, defensive capabilities and attacking intent made him one of the best full-backs on the planet.

But his career in Catalonia all came to an end last summer, and Alves has revealed he "didn’t feel as comfortable any more at Barca", despite having become a vital player for the Blaugrana over the years.

And now, for the first time since leaving the Camp Nou, Alves faces the prospect of having to attempt to knock his former club out of the Champions League, just short of two years on from the two sides' meeting in the final - which Alves won with Barcelona.

Many of the players involved that night will, again, go head-to-head in Turin on Tuesday evening - but many eyes will be focused on Alves, and how the 33-year-old performs against his former club, as the visitors plan to face a man they know well.

Alves: Juve switch strange

Alves has admitted it was strange to switch his allegiance after so many seasons with the Catalan giants, but will harvest no regrets when he comes up against Luis Enrique's men on Tuesday evening.

"It’s different but it’s a challenge at the same time," Alves told FIFA.com. "It was strange to begin with, but I’ve always enjoyed a challenge, which is why I decided to make the move.

"I have to say that I didn’t feel as comfortable any more at Barca. Things changed at a club level, and as time went on, I always seemed to be the one in the firing line.

"'Dani’s the one who has to go,' they’d say. I just got tired of it. I decided to head off in a new direction and find happiness somewhere else."

However, despite the Brazil international admitting there became a discontent between himself and the club, the veteran full-back revealed that Barcelona have confessed they are missing his lively personality within the dressing room.

Alves reveals why Barcelona miss him

"It’s strange! I’m sure they miss me!" Alves added. "I think they appreciated me as a professional, a football player, and as someone who was good to have around the place, who made every game unique, with a new dance or new music or whatever.

"I brought a bit of joy to the dressing room. I’ve spoken to them and they’ve told me that that’s what they miss about me the most: how happy I am and the way I am. They say I’m unique."

However, the Brazilian's joyful personality, Alves claims, hasn't been so widely appreciated in Italy - where the dressing room culture differs largely from Spain - and the former Barcelona star has confessed it's been one of his biggest challenges.

"I need to feel joy in my life. I need some atmosphere. I’m a big believer in energy, and I feel that what you do on the pitch reflects who you are off it." Alves added.

"That’s one problem I’ve had. In Italy, team-mates can be a bit serious and not very expressive. I’m the complete opposite! I’m happy, fun to be around, and I like to get an atmosphere going."

Alves will be desperate to get the atmosphere going again tonight, this time to the benefit of the Juventus faithful support, rather than the visiting Barcelona fans who he has become accustomed to entertaining over recent years.

Barca will just be hopeful they can keep their charismatic former star under control on Tuesday evening, as they look to seal a far easier progression to the semi-finals than they did to the quarters against Paris Saint-Germain.
