The Detroit Lions have not won a playoff game since 1991.While they’ve made three playoff appearances in the last six seasons, they’ve fallen short in each experience, most recently falling to the Seattle Seahawks in the Wild Card Round by the lopsided score of 26-6.Heading into the 2017 campaign, there will be some optimism surrounding the club, given their 9-7 record last year in the regular season. Therefore, it might be a perfect time for a refreshing re-brand, signaling that there will be change coming soon in the form of playoff success. On Thursday, the team released renderings of their new jerseys during an event at Ford Field.Check out the four different jerseys they’re planning to use below. A couple of blue tops and a throwback jersey will be matched with gray bottoms and the team will also have blue pants as an option for road games.

As you can imagine, any NFL news during the offseason sparks instant conversation on social media and this was no exception.

Fans from across the league reacted to the new jerseys and here’s what they had to say.

The reaction seemed to be split, as some really loved them:

Others didn’t see much of a difference between the new and the old.

But, of course, there were some haters as well.

Steve McClard, a senior design director at Nike, took a personal approach towards designing the new uniforms. Since he grew up in Detroit, he put his heart and soul into the project. "The reaction to my team was no one’s touching this but me," McClard said on Thursday during the unveiling. ”What a dream to work on your hometown team years later after moving across country."

According to Dave Birkett of the Detroit Free Press, McClard said Lions president Rod Wood gave Nike instructions to “pay respect to the tradition and the heritage of the team but do it in a modern way," and he and his co-designers tried do that by recapturing the Lions' traditional blue and silver color scheme in new home, away, throwback and color rush uniforms.

"I think the first thing was we wanted to get the black out of the uniforms and go back to the traditional Honolulu blue and silver, and that kind of led us to coming up with the creative ideas on what we could do to keep the Honolulu blue and silver but also modernize the look," Wood said. "The option of wearing blue pants on the road, which we did I think for a couple of years. That's different. And the Color Rush I think is very sharp. We didn't want to go with just our blue jerseys and blue pants. We wanted to go with something that was different but was part of our colors.”

Athletic tight end Eric Ebron had an extremely positive reaction to the new threads.

"I'm in love because not only do we get to wear something new but we all get to walk into the locker room every Sunday and not expect the same traditional blue or white," Ebron said. "We can mix and match now. We have alternate colors, we finally brung back the throwback jerseys, we have a Color Rush jersey. We're excited. It helps boost the morale in our locker room. When you walk in you're not looking at the same thing, you're looking at something new so it should definitely help in all aspects of our game.”

While it remains to be seen whether or not the on-field product will result in a playoff win, the new look is certainly refreshing for Lions fans.
