Manchester United had two factors to blame for their disappointing 1-1 draw against Anderlecht on Thursday night: poor finishing and sloppiness.

Henrikh Mkhitaryan gave the Red Devils the lead in the 36th minute and for most of the game it seemed victory was certain.

But one moment of laziness from Marouane Fellaini saw Anderlecht draw level with four minutes remaining through Leander Dendoncker, who was allowed a free header to score.

As for poor finishing, there were a number of culprits. United attempted 16 shots at goal and while seven found the target, Ruben Ivan Martinez was rarely tested.

One effort in the final few minutes of the game epitomised how bad they were in front of goal. Paul Pogba cut inside to shoot but his shot found row Z, much to the delight of Anderlecht's fans.

On the whole, Pogba actually had a pretty decent game. The Frenchman was typically composed in midfield and played some wonderful crossfield passes.

However, because of the result, it was what Pogba did wrong at the Constant Vanden Stock Stadium that was remembered afterwards.

Not only was he mocked for his awful shot in the 87th minute, but also for a rather embarrassing moment involving one of Anderlecht's defenders.

In the video below, Pogba initially does well to dispossess Kara Mbodji but then gets himself in a tangle, slipping twice as he spins around in a circle.

Mbodji then nonchalantly dribbles the ball away, leaving Pogba in a frustrated heap.

POGBA SENT BACK TO JUVENTUS - BY HIMSELF

Pogba has certainly had his critics since joining United for £89 million and he issued a strong message to those who doubt him on Wednesday.

Speaking ahead of the Anderlecht game, he said: "I think people are looking at me and judging me for not scoring goals, but that's football.

"They want me to score goals because of the mountain of the transfer. My job is to be a midfielder, to make assists. The transfer is something else, the pitch is something else. I'm doing a job.

"When I pass to people and they don't score, it can happen. People want me to score because of the transfer fee, but I don’t think about that. If I can make the team win, I will do it.

"If I was scoring the goals that had hit the crossbar, I don't think people would be saying this."
