With the season drawing to an end, thoughts are starting to cast towards the PFA awards. On Thursday, the six players nominated for the PFA Player of the Year and the PFA Young Player of the Year awards were announced.Chelsea duo Eden Hazard and N’Golo Kante lead the running for the main award, while Harry Kane, Zlatan Ibrahimovic, Alexis Sanchez and Romelu Lukaku were also named. As for the Young Player of the Year, Dele Alli - who was rather harshly snubbed for the main award - leads the way, with Kane, Lukaku, Leroy Sane, Michael Keane and Jordan Pickford the other nominees. But footballers don’t just have to vote for the Player of the Year and Young Player of the Year. They also have to vote for their Team of the Year.In the coming weeks, we’ll see plenty of footballers posting their votes on social media and the controversial and outspoken Joey Barton is the first to do so.

Barton on Kante

Now, Kante is the heavy favourite to win the Player of the Year award but Barton has publicly questioned the hype surrounding the Frenchman this season.

“For pundits, he’s [Kante] the best midfielder in the world. That’s not the case – he’s very good, but I played against him three weeks ago,” he said.

Therefore, it’s probably not surprising to see Barton vote for Kante’s teammates, Hazard.

As for the Young Player, Barton also springs no surprises by going with Alli.

For the Team of the Year, though, Barton does include Kante in a very decent-looking XI. Here it is:

Goalkeeper: Hugo Lloris

Right-back: Kyle Walker

Centre-back: Gary Cahill

Centre-back: Toby Alderweireld

Left-back: Marcos Alonso

Right-midfield: Sadio Mane

Centre midfield: Dele Alli

Centre midfield: N’Golo Kante

Left-midfield: Eden Hazard

Striker: Zlatan Ibrahimovic

Striker: Romelu Lukaku

Not bad, Joey. Not bad.
