Phil Jackson’s time as the President of Basketball Operations with the New York Knicks has been a major disappointment.

Carmelo Anthony’s time as the face of the Knicks franchise has also been a major disappointment.

After a drama-filled season of back-and-forth dialogue between the two outspoken members of the organization, both in the media and face-to-face, it appears as though Jackson has reached his tipping point when it comes to Anthony’s situation.

Via ESPN.com’s Ian Begley, Jackson will continue to explore trade options for Anthony this offseason despite Anthony’s full no-trade clause, noting that the All-Star “would be better off somewhere else.”

The main reason: the team simply hasn’t been able to win with Anthony at the helm of the offensive attack.

"We've not been able to win with [Anthony] on the court at this time," Jackson said. "I think the direction with our team is that he's a player that would be better off somewhere else and using his talent somewhere where he can win or chase that championship.”

In other words: he’s not the type of player the Knicks want to feature in their triangle scheme. Since ‘Melo’s game is based upon controlling the ball for long periods of the shot clock and often times isolating his defender, the concept of team basketball doesn’t fit in well with his me-first scoring mentality.

Entering the fourth season of a five-year, $124 million contract, Anthony got together with Jackson on Thursday to discuss his future with the club.

In that meeting, Jackson told Anthony that he’d have a lot more fun playing for a contender.

"I just said that you haven't won here. You don't want to end up your career not winning," Jackson noted. "This is not something that you want to have labeled on your career. You want to get to that territory where you have a chance to win. That's -- we talked around that. But he likes it here. He expressed that.”

The Knicks have missed the playoffs for four-straight seasons and have lost at least 50 games in the last three. In all, they’ve gone just 80-166 in Jackson’s three full seasons in charge.

The 32-year-old 10-time All-Star Anthony admitted that he’d like to return to the Knicks, but would keep his ears open to any trade proposal that comes his way this offseason.

If he ends up getting dealt, he will likely be the biggest name switching teams over the summer.
