Friday saw some fairly big news with controversial Sun columnist Kelvin Mackenzie suspended due to an article about Everton midfielder, Ross Barkley. The piece was said to be hate-driven towards the England international and even referred to him as "thick" while also stating that men with similar "pay packets" in Liverpool were "drug dealers".Mackenzie gained infamy on Merseyside back in 1989 when as the editor of the national newspaper he published false information incriminating Liverpool fans in the Hillsborough disaster - a truly despicable act.

Now, many of football's famous faces are getting involved in his latest debacle, one which further sums up his horrible character, and it seems Ian Wright and Stan Collymore have a had a bit of a tiff over the incident.

Twitter watched on as the two former Premier League stars engaged in a war of words which started through Collymore mocking Wright's comments about Mackenzie.

Then, Wright fired back with some ammunition of his own.

Collymore duly replied but then the altercation took its darkest turn as Wright replied with a fairly epic insult.

Ouch, that has to hurt. The incident being referred to is one where Collymore was charged after hitting his then girlfriend, Ulrika Jonsson, in a Paris bar in 1998.

It is something that can often be found referenced in his Twitter mentions from various trolls - to be fair, his controversial comments are the perfect bait for them.

Social media is quickly becoming a battleground for present and past footballers and the latest instalment is one of the most brutal yet.
