Jose Mourinho was full of praise for Marcus Rashford after the 19-year-old produced an impressive performance in Manchester United’s 2-0 win over Chelsea this afternoon.
"Marcus Rashford played fantastically well,” Mourinho said, via the Mirror.
“He had a very good game at Stamford Bridge in the cup, exactly the same chance to score, because he is faster than their defenders.”
Rashford opened the scoring in the first half with a cool finish past Asmir Begovic. The young striker’s pace allowed him to get in behind Chelsea’s defence, and it was a goal that definitely wouldn’t have happened if Zlatan Ibrahimovic were in Rashford’s position.
Mourinho wasn’t alone in ringing Rashford’s praises.
Former United defender Phil Neville tweeted: “I will say again @MarcusRashford is a star,” while Gary Lineker opined: “Brilliant display from a 19 year old with a wonderful future. Marcus Rashford is special.”
Herrera was superb
The teenager scored his ninth goal of the season when he latched onto Ander Herrera’s perfect pass.
It was the Spaniard who grabbed United’s second goal, capping an equally impressive individual performance.
It quickly became clear after kick-off that Mourinho had instructed Herrera to man-mark Eden Hazard to prevent him from causing trouble. And he did that to perfection, as Herrera’s stats show:
Sky Sports highlighted Herrera’s expert defensive performance, capturing footage of him following Hazard from midfield into a central defensive performance and then across to left back.

Mourinho hails Herrera
With a goal and an assist, it’s no surprise Mourinho praised the 27-year-old’s all-round performance.
"I don’t know to say, but different teams, different players, maybe it’s difficult for some managers to find Ander Herrera to do the job that he did today," the Portuguese said, via the Manchester Evening News.
