Reading have released defender Sam Sodje after his contract expired.

The 30-year-old centre-half made just eight appearances for the Royals after joining from Brentford in 2006, and spent the latter part of last season on loan with League One play-off semi-finalists Leeds.

Director of football Nick Hammond told the club's official website: "I would like to wish Sam all the best for the future."

He added: "He has not been able to play as many games as he would have liked for us, but he now has the opportunity to find himself a new home in the game and good luck to him."
