Today, the WWE is mourning the loss of a former superstar as Matt “Rosey” Anoa’i passed away Monday at the age of 47. Roman Reigns is feeling this pain most of all because Rosey was his older brother and nothing can take the pain out of these moments. While Reigns himself hasn’t posted anything on social media or released a statement, the WWE and his family have put together a joint statement about the former performer and posted it to the company’s website for further information.

They wrote: “He debuted in 2002 alongside his cousin Jamal as part of 3-Minute Warning. The imposing, powerful tandem tore through Raw’s tag team division before going their separate ways. Rosey then formed a beloved superhero duo with The Hurricane, which culminated in his first World Tag Team Championship reign.”

Fans will no doubt remember the run that Rosey had with Gregory Helms as a part of their superhero team. The entire gimmick seemed like an unlikely fit on the surface, but proved to be a hit with viewers and were kept on as a team for a while.

The family shared: “The Anoa’i family is mourning the loss of Sika’s son, Matt aka Rosey, due to an untimely death. We want to let his fans know that he loved them and the wrestling world so much.

“In his passing, he left three beautiful young children and a heartbroken family. Please respect the privacy of his children and family as they mourn the loss of this kind, loving, gentle man, who was a father, son, brother and a superhero to us all.”

There are numerous superstars that pass through the halls of the company and you never know when they will be gone. From the response on social media and in this release, it is clear that Rosie had a deep effect on those that knew him and those that loved watching him wrestle.
