This week's Monday Night RAW treated fans to one of the stranger broken ring segments from the WWE in recent memory. Braun Strowman superplexed The Big Show hard enough to destroy the ring and send a referee flying in the process.

The Monster Among Men has been on a tear as of late and just last week he destroyed Roman Reigns backstage. The two superstars struggled backstage during an interview segment and the scene was capped when Strowman flipped an ambulance containing an injured Big Dog.

WWE writers are moving to position the giant as a major force of destruction on the roster after his showing at WrestleMania 33. His otherworldly power manifested itself on Monday with the broken ring.

Big Show is a very large man and tossing him down while breaking the ring was a startling showcase of his destructive power. These two have been in a bit of a rivalry since before The Ultimate Thrill Ride and it still isn’t over yet.

One thing that fans may have missed the first time around was referee John Cone flying out of the ring as it buckled under the force of two huge men hitting the canvas. Cone tried his hardest to brace himself for the fall before the move was completed, but it was no use.

The ropes went limp during the collapse and he sprawled over the slack barrier. A packed crowd went crazy as both men were sprawled in the middle of the ring. In new footage released today, you can see that the referee got the absolute worst of the fall.

Dropping from a raised ring to the ground is more than 4 feet and there was no type of padding to break his fall. Cone was still holding on to the ropes when he hit the ground with a thud and got hit with the metal stairs for his trouble.

These sorts of happy accidents are easily turned into moments that help the WWE sell a storyline afterward. Braun’s match with the Big Show, and his attack on Reigns, have shown him to be a threat worth paying attention to for audiences.

Strowman has become a major player for the red brand and it will be interesting to see what the company decides to do with the monster that they have created. A number of paths can be taken, but right now, the plan is to stretch the Reigns/Strowman beef into SummerSlam.
