The Hardy Boyz made their triumphant return to the WWE during WrestleMania 33, and it was one of the biggest moments of the night. The honeymoon phase of their newest stint with the company has really just started and the brothers are enjoying their time back.

Getting to this point has been an absolute struggle as so many people had no idea who to believe as rumours about a possible return started surfacing around the tag team months ago. Back then, this was just hopefully thinking that the WWE could come through for the fans.

Matt and Jeff’s contract with Ring of Honor has long since expired and now they are just fulfilling their commitment to tour the independent circuit. By the time they are done with that, the company will have figured out a clearer direction for their brand new tag team.

Constant questions still surround Matt Hardy’s popular ‘Broken’ gimmick that proved so successful while he was away from the company. WWE officials are currently negotiating a contract to determine when they will be allowed to use it.

There have been some coy references to the gimmick on camera with announcers mentioning it and Matt’s distinct speech patterns, but the reveal is still a ways away. Bill Bhatti of Sportskeeda explained what Vince McMahon’s approach to the Hardy situation has been.

Originally, he wasn’t a fan of it, until he saw the roaring response to their entrance during Mania this year. Now, he is open to using the gimmick once it’s time to switch it up and he’s told the creative team to start brainstorming ideas for The Broken Hardys.

Jeff Hardy was also always scheduled to return to the company, but after the success of the Broken Matt Hardy character, WWE decided to bring both back. Eventually Jeff will be a main player in the title picture and Broken Matt will be feuding with a player like Bray Wyatt.

At any rate, fans are still waiting for these changes to make their way to the WWE Universe. Matt will soon be able to do more than just allude to his alter ego and he knows the Broken Universe is on the horizon.

For right now, the Hardyz’ Attitude Era revival is going over well and that may just be icing on the cake, because the main course will be here shortly.
