CM Punk is still a part of the UFC roster and is currently pursuing a mixed martial arts career, but he really can’t stay away from the WWE for an extended period of time. The former WWE champion gets asked about his time with the company almost every time he gives an interview.

On the other side, fans have been waiting for a potential CM Punk return one day and eagerly await the possibility that he could find his way back into Vince McMahon’s good graces. That is much more likely down the line even though chances of that are slim at the moment.

Both sides burned some bridges on Punk’s way out the door and it would take a great deal of effort from both sides to repair the damage to that relationship. Still, it seems like his candidness about his experience in the WWE might show some thawing feelings on his part.

The Best in the World recently went on television in his hometown of Chicago and spoke in depth about how he ended up in the WWE. His answer to a question about the WWE being his ultimate goal as a child shows that a resolution is still a ways away.

He said: “I’m not sure. Obviously, I watched WWF as a kid, but when I made the conscious decision - WWF was never the end goal. I romanticized about japanese wrestling. There was two companies in Japan, it was called All Japan and New Japan, and that was my thing.

“But I worked so long and hard at it that it became so boring, it became the last frontier was WWE. I had to go see if I could conquer that so I gave it a shot.”

Strangely enough, these comments sound a lot like what motivated Punk to got try MMA and enter the UFC at the height of his popularity with the WWE. He was less successful inside of the cage than he was inside of the ring, but many performers respected his decision to cross over.

His future remains uncertain after that crushing defeat in his first match inside of the octagon and it's clear that The Best in the World is taking some time to figure out what exactly he wants to do next.

As much as he may indeed want to put his time as a professional wrestler behind him, his following is still sizeable in current crowds and the occasional chant of his name will break out at live shows. Time will tell if he ever decides to strap his boots back up again.
