Heading into their first round series in the Western Conference Playoffs, not many people thought that the seventh-seeded Memphis Grizzlies would contend with the second-seeded San Antonio Spurs. After all, the Spurs went 61-21 in the regular season, are led by a legendary head coach with multiple rings and have a handful of future Hall of Famers on their roster.Meanwhile, the Grizzlies stumbled into the playoffs at 43-39, have a rookie head coach and have dealt with injuries and a general lack of productive depth on their roster all season long.Previously, as seen above, head coach David Fizdale called Game 3's victory a "must-win". Not only did they pull off that victory, but thanks in part to Marc Gasol, the Grizzlies tied up the series at 2-2 with a 110-108 overtime victory on Saturday night. Gasol delivered the game-winning shot dramatic fashion. With just seconds remaining in the game and with the score tied at 108, the center received a pass from Mike Conley on the high block and did this:

After receiving the ball, it looked like the ball might have been going back to Conley, who might have had a path to the basket turning the corner around Gasol. However, the Spaniard put the ball to the floor, dribbled to his right, and threw up an awkward-looking two-handed runner that defender LaMarcus Aldridge couldn’t contest.

The degree of difficulty that the shot required was immense and shows the incredible touch that the 7-footer has around the rim.

As you might imagine, the shot also had historic significance, given the fact that the Grizzlies have never won an NBA title and have had very limited postseason success in the history of the franchise.

Oddly enough, he also hit a buzzer-beater at the end of the second quarter, which gave Memphis some momentum heading into halftime.

In 46 minutes played, Gasol had 16 points on 5-of-12 shooting along with 12 rebounds and four assists. The star of the night for the Grizzlies was point guard Mike Conley, who nearly provided a surprise triple-double with 35 points, nine rebounds and eight assists.

MVP candidate Kawhi Leonard posted 43 points on 14-of-30 shooting, including 7-of-10 from three point range, along with eight rebounds, three assists and six steals in the loss for the Spurs. Marc's brother Pau had eight points and 11 rebounds in 21 minutes off the bench for San Antonio.

While Memphis had 22 turnovers compared to San Antonio’s nine, the Grizzlies also dominated the glass, pulling down 51 boards compared to 37 by the Spurs. Therefore, the two clear areas of weakness for both teams evened out and resulted in a wire-to-wire finish.

A tie-breaking Game 5 will take place on Tuesday at the AT&T Center in San Antonio. If this series has been any indication so far, it will be a physical, dramatic battle to the end.
