One of the craziest debuts in mixed martial arts (MMA) history is officially set to go down next month (May 20, 2017).

Japanese MMA promotion DEEP JEWELS will host their 16th event next month, and it will feature the only amateur fight on the card between a 12-year-old girl, MoMo, against a woman twice her age at 24, Momoko Yamasaki. Scratching your head yet? So are we.

The bout is set to go down at the minimum weight limit of 95 pounds. MoMo will be stepping into the cage against a women with four fights experience under her belt, however, both fighters will be in head gear. DEEP JEWELS' amateur rules also state that no striking to the head of grounded opponents is allowed.

Yamasaki is coming off of back-to-back losses with a record of 2-3. She was inspired to do MMA after being bullied in junior high school and racking up some experience as a street fighter.

DEEP JEWELS issued a press release for the bout and stated that Yamasaki's troubled past led to her delinquency, sparking a series of “tale of triumphs on the street.” She'll get the opportunity to continue those delinquent triumphs when she takes on an opponent still in the seventh grade. 

MoMo isn't heading into the contest without a lack of proper training, however, as she currently trains at Hakuhinkai Karate, which has produced exceptional talents such as Mizuki, Naoki Inoue, and Yukari Yamaguchi.
