Ilie Nastase has been in the headlines for all the wrong reasons this last week, thanks to some choice behaviour aimed at Johanna Konta, and seemingly racist and sexist comments towards Serena Williams and her unborn child.

Speaking about Williams, who had just announced she was pregnant, the controversial tennis figure proclaimed that, when asked about her pregnancy, "let's see what colour it has. Chocolate with milk?"

Despite getting a lot of criticism from these remarks, Nastase has remarkably denied that this comment could be considered racist.

Williams has since responded to the comments via Instagram, explaining that it disappoints her to know we live in a society where people like Nastase can make such racist comments towards her and her unborn child, as well as sexist comments against her peers.

Responding to Williams' Instagram posts, Nastase has said that whatever he says, he is considered "the bad boy", and that the media are out to get him.

When asked about Williams' reaction, Nastase said: "Anything I say, I am the bad boy

"If I said she would have an ugly, black baby, that would have been racist."

It's fascinating to see that a grown man could have these views.

Certainly, if he said she'd have an "ugly, black baby", that would have been more than racist, but saying that her baby would be "chocolate with milk" is nasty and vulgar.

Nastase decided that he wasn't done digging his hole, and grabbed his shovel for another go at it - he was determined to go deeper.

He questioned the need to even report the things he had said before the Federation Cup series involving Romania against Britain.

"Why write a news story like this? Just to have a scandal? There are many more important things going on."

The key to not having a scandal is by not saying the things you did, Nastase. It's right that Williams was upset by his racist remarks, and it was right that Konta was upset over his remarks during the Fed Cup match that saw him taken from the stands.

Konta asked for the crowd to be quieter, as she was finding it distracting - a reasonable enough request - to which Nastase shouted out "f***ing b****es".

It's remarkable that he could not think that people would pick up on and respond to his disgraceful behaviour and foul language.
