Lionel Messi's new 'Hero' card on FIFA 17 features something pretty rare

Lionel Messi couldn’t have chosen a better game to score his 500th goal for Barcelona.

Ahead of last Sunday’s pulsating El Clasico, where Barca ran out 3-2 winners, the Argentine needed two more goals to reach the landmark and make history.

He bagged his 499th in the 33rd minute by latching on to Ivan Rakitic’s pass, beating Luka Modric and Dani Carvajal with ease and firing low past Keylor Navas.

And in the 92nd minute, with mere seconds of the game remaining and the scores level at 2-2, Jordi Alba found Messi in the 18-yard box to curl a wonderful shot into the bottom-left corner.

What better way to score your 500th goal for Barcelona than with a last-minute winner in El Clasico, not to mention to put your side top of La Liga.

Messi’s celebration said it all. After scoring the winner, he took off his shirt, darted over to Real Madrid’s fans and held up ‘Messi 10’. It was an iconic moment.

His heroics at the Bernabeu served as yet another reminder that we’re arguably watching the greatest player to ever grace football.

Andres Iniesta and Luis Suarez both think so anyway, with the latter posting a picture of himself and Messi on Instagram with the caption: “With the best player in HISTORY.”

Three days on from another memorable El Clasico and Messi has been rewarded for his 500th Barcelona goal – on FIFA 17 Ultimate Team.

EA Sports announced the Team of the Week on Wednesday, which featured a brand new, 96-rated ‘Hero’ card for Messi. Check it out in the tweet below.

As you might have noticed, though, there’s something a bit special about Messi’s new card.

For the first time ever on FIFA Ultimate Team, which began way back on FIFA 09, the Argentina international has been classified as a CAM.

Here’s a closer look at his new card, albeit without the action graphic. It’s also worth noting that Messi actually started on right wing against Real.

Messi is now the proud owner of the best CAM card on FIFA 17, which boasts 92 pace, 95 shooting, 91 passing and 99 dribbling. It’s literally incredible.

According to Futhead, the next best CAM is Dele Alli, whose special card for winning the PFA Young Player of the Year is 91 rated. Mesut Ozil also has a 91-rated inform.
