Arsenal's narrow 1-0 win over Leicester City on Wednesday night was somewhat fortuitous.

Despite dominating possession, the Gunners were sloppy in the final third and struggled to carve open what was, in truth, a solid defence.

Alexis Sanchez was particularly poor at the Emirates Stadium, especially in the opening 45 minutes, while Theo Walcott went missing on the right.

But winning is all that matters and they eventually scored late on through Nacho Monreal, whose wayward shot found the back of the net thanks to Robert Huth's back.

Victory for Arsenal meant they moved above Everton into sixth and are now four points behind Manchester City in fourth.

Finishing in the top four still looks unlikely but Arsene Wenger's men have won three games on the bounce now, which will do the world of good to their confidence.

But if they want to secure Champions League football, they'll have to perform a lot better than they did against Leicester in the coming weeks.

It's no exaggeration that Arsenal were hanging on for dear life in stoppage time, with Leicester piling on the pressure through set pieces.

Sanchez epitomised his side's desperation for all three points when he cheekily tried to stop Christian Fuchs from taking a throw-in by standing two yards away.

Every time Fuchs began his run up, Sanchez would edge forwards and try to put him off by jumping. It worked twice, but the Leicester left-back soon lost his rag.

In the video below, Fuchs launches the ball at Sanchez in frustration, to which the Chilean falls to the floor holding his face. Check it out.

Fuchs appeared to hit Sanchez's shoulder, hence why the winger copped a lot of criticism on social media for play-acting.

However, soon after the game, Sanchez responded to the backlash by posting two pictures of himself with a swollen lip on Twitter. Perhaps he did get hit in the face after all.

Okay, so Sanchez's busted lip didn't require him to drop to the floor and roll around, but at least there was genuine contact - would have been embarrassing otherwise.

Next up for Arsenal is Tottenham at White Hart Lane, where Sanchez will need to be on top form if they're to have any hope of coming away with a result.
