SmackDown LIVE won big in the recent superstar shake-up as they managed to keep hold of AJ Styles and brought in the likes of the New Day and Kevin Owens.

However, arguably the biggest acquisition from the trades saw Charlotte Flair make the move from Monday Night RAW to the blue brand and plenty of excitement has surrounded her arrival.

FACE TURN

As expected, she was thrown into the SmackDown Women’s Championship picture as she had her title shot earlier this week against Naomi, but they were both ambushed by Carmella, Natalya and Tamina – and James Ellsworth was also there.

That pretty much cemented a face turn for Charlotte, which came as a surprise to many considering the feeling was she’d be SmackDown’s biggest heel and help create even bigger faces on the show.

However, according to a report from the Wrestling Observer Newsletter, WWE has a big plan in place as to why they opted to turn Charlotte face.

They’re claiming that WWE wants to make her the women’s face of the SmackDown brand moving forward, which is the complete opposite from the role she portrayed on RAW.

WWE apparently feels that Charlotte brings a lot of value simply with her name as she’s Ric Flair’s daughter, while there’s no denying how talented she is in the ring. When you combine both of those crucial factors, she can be a massive star for WWE on either brand as a face for years to come.

VALUE

She even made history this week as she became the first female to ever feature in the main event of SmackDown, RAW as well as a pay-per-view, so it shows how much the company values her as an asset and it looks very likely that they’ll continue building her as a ‘groundbreaker’ for women’s wrestling.

As IWNerd has also claimed, the one problem WWE has with this face turn is that there aren’t any long-term heels she can feud with, as this new trio of opponents don’t offer anything in the long-term as villains and separately, they aren’t huge threats.

Somebody has to turn heel soon, and it won’t be Naomi. Chances are, Becky Lynch comes to even the odds for a short while, before it’s the Irish Lass Kicker that ends up the villain in a potentially exciting and lengthy feud with The Queen.

She’s proven to be the ultimate heel, and there’s no denying that she can be the biggest face in the company too.
