Last night the boxing world witnessed a true heavyweight classic, two men both at the opposite ends of their career fought toe-toe. Yet ultimately the youth and fitness of Anthony Joshua prevailed in the end, with a stunning flurry of punches in round 11 to maintain his 100 per cent win and knockout record.

Significantly it was the first time in Joshua's career he had been knocked down on the canvas. After Joshua had put Klitschko down in the fifth round it looked like another quick victory for Joshua.

However Klitschko used his 68 fights worth of experience to come back, and hit Joshua with the biggest punch he has taken in his career, and sent him down.

When that happened Joshua's trainer Rob McCracken thought it was game over.

"At that point when he got knocked down I was 100% sure he wad going to lose," he was quoted as saying by the Mirror. "The more optimistic side of me thought if he could regroup and if he stayed with me and listened to me I would get him through it"

Epic win for Joshua

No doubt when reflecting on the fight Joshua will have to owe his coach McCracken a great deal, as through listening to him Joshua managed to scrap through the next couple of rounds containing Klitschko's powerful onslaught.

It was clear to see that Joshua's long and intense 12-week training camp paid off, as his fitness helped him to get as far as the 11th round. Like McCracken said however it wasn't just his fitness that got him through the fight, it was his determination and heart. He said "his will to win and determination has been the most impressive thing for us".

After Klitschko knocked Joshua down it wasn't only McCracken who feared the worst for Joshua, the crowd was stunned too and was expecting a quick end to the fight. Joshua for the first time in his career looked completely out, and wasn't even putting his hands up to defend. For Joshua fans watching live and at home it looked like his unbeaten career streak was about to end.

Yet after surviving through that scare Joshua must have heard Tony Bellew's advice, and in the 11th round implemented his own style onto the fight. Joshua took it to Klitschko and connected some huge punches, which Klitschko has no answer to. The fight ended after the referee intervened and that was that.

The future is bright yet ambiguous for Joshua, after the fight he called out Tyson Fury, and Fury responded by saying "let's get it on".

But we know there is definitely a rematch clause in the contract, and fans will probably love to see another fight between these two greats. For now Joshua has just got to relax and soak up the biggest victory in his career.
