At the age of 40, Vince Carter has been in the NBA since being drafted as the fifth overall pick in the 1998 NBA draft by the Golden State Warriors, who then traded him to the Toronto Raptors.

He has now played in the league for 19 seasons, so naturally, there is talk about him possibly bringing his career to an end at some point in the near future.

The guard-forward will be a free agent this summer, and despite the fact the 2017-18 season will be the 20th season of his career, Carter is not going to be retiring from the NBA anytime soon.

Carter is keeping to his promise he made at the beginning of this season that he'll play for two more years before calling it a day.

ESPN has reported Carter saying, via RealGM.com: "I said to myself 'I want to play 15 years.' I don't know where I got that from. And then I got to 15 years and I kept going. I never capped it, but at the same time I've had a lot of players remind me of things I've said. I'm still saying 'two more years and I'm done.'"

Carter averaged 8.0 points, 3.1 rebounds, and 1.8 assists in 73 games this season for the Memphis Grizzlies, and hopes to re-sign with the team this offseason.

The eight-time NBA All-Star said: "I sit here today and I think of when I was younger, at that 25 and the season was over, I felt awful. I could play three more rounds of basketball right now."

Whether or not the Grizzlies will re-sign Carter remains to be seen, but since signing with the team three seasons ago, his minutes per game has increased season after season, and his points, rebounds, and assists per game averages are higher than what they were in his first season in Memphis.

The only thing that's absent from Carter's career is a championship, and many have said he should be chasing after that ring, but the man himself has said he is comfortable with staying in Memphis.

Carter said, according to the Memphis Commercial Appeal: "I hear people say all the time, 'Go chase the ring.' That word 'chase' is tough for me. I'm comfortable here, my family is comfortable here, we're building something exciting and great and I enjoy going to work with these guys every day."
