Remember when Francis Jeffers signed for Arsenal for £10 million? Yes, that happened! With 18 Premier League goals in 49 games for Everton, the speedy striker grabbed Arsene Wenger's attention as he attempted to find an Ian Wright-esque player to compliment his talented forwards.Jeffers would score eight goals in 39 appearances in all competitions over a four-year spell with the Gunners before being loaned back to Everton and then signing for Charlton in a £2.6 million deal. Not money well spent by all accounts. But, that was back in 2001. Now aged 36, the one-time England international - which was Wayne Rooney's England debut - is retired from the game and now works as an academy coach at Goodison Park. But, what he is planning to do will surprise even the most open-minded individual. The former 'Fox in the Box' is taking his talents to the boxing ring, and he's going to face off against former Liverpool midfielder David Thompson.Olympic gold medal boxer Derry Mathews announced the fight on Twitter saying: "Delighted that franny Jeffers will be fighting David Thompson on are CampandFurnace charity show ex Everton v Liverpool who's going to win?"

Mathews added with a picture of Thompson and Jamie Carragher: "Tommo the fella with the big ears FJ10official your fighting him just punch his head in its easy francisv62 am guessing your his coach."

Many of you may remember Thompson from Steven Gerrard's early days at Anfield and he is now a pundit for BBC Radio Merseyside.

According to Mathews, the event is set to take place on July 2 and we'll see if Jeffers is the lethal finisher he once was.

Upon signing Jeffers, Wenger famously explained just why he had splashed the cash on the Toffees forward.

He said: "I've signed Francis because he is a good player and has the qualities I need in my team. He is only 20 and he's a great example of a player with quality because he's already had experience of playing in the Premiership.

"Maybe people will be surprised that I have signed an Englishman, but I looked at his quality and not his passport. You need an English base and the right mixture at a club.

"Francis is that 'fox in the box' we have been talking about and although he is a goalscorer I want to develop him as a team player so he is not obsessed by just scoring goals."
