It seems as if we’re edging closer to it every single week, so surely it’s only a matter of time before Matt Hardy debuts his Broken gimmick in WWE.We’ve already seen glimpses of it on WWE programming, where Matt goes from his version one mannerisms to the delete gestures – the teases are still driving fans crazy as it looks like it’s close to happening.

BROKEN

Despite Vince McMahon not being a fan of it at first, numerous outlets have claimed that he’s open to using it as he knows there’s potential with it in WWE, especially with merchandise.

As expected, though, Anthem wasn’t going to make it easy for anybody that wanted to use the gimmick.

Rather than receiving a cease and desist order or even taking it to court, WWE is said to be paying one lump sum to Anthem, instead of paying royalties from merchandise sales.

A quick search on Matt’s Twitter account will tell you all you need to know; he’s dropping plenty of hits and it seems as if WWE is okay with it.

Last week, rumours started to circulate that WWE had agreed on a deal with Anthem for the gimmick rights and although that hasn’t been officially confirmed or denied, Matt’s wife Reby Sky claimed on Twitter that the rumours were false.

UPDATE

Then again, Jeff told reporters he wasn’t returning to WWE, two days before their emphatic return at WrestleMania 33 where they claimed the RAW tag team championships.

Dave Meltzer of the Wrestling Observer Newsletter recently appeared on the Live Audio Wrestling podcast to discuss the subject, and has provided the latest update on WWE bringing the Broken gimmick to WWE.

While he claimed the two sides haven’t worked any deal out right now, they’re definitely talking and WWE is confident of making it happen.

According to Wrestling Rumors, he said: “I think there’s something up.

“I know that there were rumours that there was a deal done, and Reby – Matt’s wife – said that’s not the case.

“I know that [WWE and Anthem] were in talks, and I just feel like they’re gonna get there at some point because Matt’s obviously sneaking it in.

“So, I think that it’s something where if the deal isn’t done, they’re confident enough that the deal will be done because if they weren’t confident, Vince wouldn’t let this happen.”

The recent heel turn by Cesaro and Sheamus certainly brought out new life in Matt since his return, and although it doesn’t seem like it’s going to happen relatively soon, it’s great to hear that WWE is very confident in bringing it to weekly programming.
