You won’t find too many footballers with thicker skin than John Terry.

The Chelsea captain, who will leave Stamford Bridge this summer, is one of those players that opposition fans love to hate but he’s heard it all before during his illustrious career.

Terry won’t miss the abuse from the terraces when he finally hangs up his boots, that’s for sure.

The 36-year-old was targeted by online trolls last week when his mum was mistaken for a lookalike prostitute in a graphic sex video that sent social media into meltdown.

Per the Mirror, the two-minute clip was accompanied by the hashtag ‘#johnterrysmum’.

Because some people on social media are gullible, this then spread around like wildfire.

Of course, the woman in the aforementioned video wasn’t Terry’s mum and a spokesman for the four-time Premier League winner has threatened legal action against anybody claiming otherwise.

"It’s not her,” the spokesman told the Daily Star. “We will go legally unbelievably hard on anyone suggesting it is her.

"It’s not her. This is very upsetting for the Terry family.”

However, that warning didn’t stop Tottenham fans from creating an x-rated chant involving Terry’s mum during their club’s Premier League clash against Crystal Palace at Selhurst Park last week.

Spurs fan messages Terry - receives an amazing reply

And one Spurs fan decided to direct message Terry with the lyrics to the chant on Instagram.

No, we’re not sure why, either.

The Spurs fan in question, a guy called ‘Danny’, sent a screenshot to Sport Bible showing Terry had responded to his trolling message.

And what a response from the Blues’ skipper…

Owned.

As Sport Bible themselves point out, it’s possible that the screenshot has been edited using Photoshop.

Terry sent another DM to a follower in February...

However, this isn’t the first time that Terry has responded to one of his Instagram followers’ DMs.

Back in February, a lad called Benjamin posted a screenshot of a DM from Terry after he sent a photo of his new ‘JT 26’ tattoo.
